Whether with an air rifle on an indoor range, or with a full-bore rifle on an outdoor range, safety is the number one concern. All supervising staff go through stringent training courses before being allowed to supervise cadets on ranges. All cadets must undergo dry training and pass safe handling courses before being allowed on to any range.

There are two main types of rifle used by cadets.

The No8 Rifle  - a single shot bolt action 0.22 caliber rifle  is fired on 25mtr indoor and outdoor ranges.

No8Rifle

The L98-A1 - a single shot version of the rifle used by the British armed forces. Its 5.56mm caliber means it is used on outdoor ranges.

Marksmanship

All shooting in the Air Cadets is centered around marksmanship. This is measured either by spread of the rounds hitting the target (grouping) or by using a points system - the closer to the center of the target, the higher the score.

Cadets who qualify for the following awards and can then display the appropriate badge on their uniforms.
