TRAX Silverstone 2001

Trax is the biggest car club event of the year, and once again we were back in force! 89 club members had booked a space on the club display, and nearly 60 of them had gone for at least one track session!

Early Sunday morning we found ourselves washing and polishing the cars in preparation for a great day. One or two late drop-outs left us with 82 cars on display, still one of the largest club displays of the show.

Club members were soon busy preparing for track sessions, 0-60 sprints and also chatting to other owners.

The club track sessions were booked for 11.40 am with 40 cars signed on, and a further 19 cars at 2.40pm. Unfortunately a few members left it late to get there, got stuck in the usual 9am queues, and missed the briefing session! You really have to be there early to make sure at Trax, as over 10,000 people attend on the day.

The track sessions went very well, with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. Many of our “track virgins” enjoyed it so much that they have since gone on to book for our club trackday on October 13th at Elvington Airfield.

Quite a few club members had a go on the 0-60mph sprints, and our quickest was Mike Smith with an impressive 3.57s time in his Nissan Skyline R33. This was apparently 2nd fastest car of the day, beaten (just) by the twin engined Renault 5 turbo.

Track action continued all day, but unfortunately club member Paul Ergatoudis had a major accident, resulting in a badly damaged car later in the afternoon. Although shaken, he was otherwise intact. I’m sure all club members wish him the best with repairs if possible. Later on a Subaru Impreza P1 also came to grief in a gravel trap, rolling 3 times, again the owner escaped unscathed apparently.

Apart from these incidents the day passed off really well, and quite a new few members joined up on the day.

Overall a very successful day for the club, with lots of new faces on the club display. Apologies if I didn’t get to chat to anyone, it was a really hectic day! Many thanks to all members, and a special thank-you to our regional organisers for their help and assistance on the day and throughout the year.

Next year we will be booking for 100 cars and two full track sessions, so remember to book early in April2002 to ensure you get to Trax2002.
