Santa
Pod June 3rd- Vauxhall sprint day
Club members
attended the Vauxhall Performance clubs national day on Sunday 3rd June
2001. The venue was Santa Pod, Northamptonshire.
Around 25
members came along, some just came to show their cars on the club display,
while others took part in the racing as well.

Entry costs
were reasonable at just £9 for the day, with the drag racing an
additional £10. All that was needed was a driving license!
The weather
turned out to be perfect for both spectating and drag racing, being bright
and sunny. The track was in fine condition, and many quick cars were all
ready taking turns down the strip.
There was
little queuing and so members got the chance to race head to head with
friends, or against anything else they fancied having a go at!

The club cars
created a great display, and with many club members running the fastest
times on the day, it was a superb showing from The 200 Plus club.
Results:
In the 4wd
class, Danny Fennell was 2nd quickest on the day, in his Nissan Pulsar
GTI-R. This car has been prepared by DP motorsport, and at around 370bhp
is now one of the quickest GTI-Rs in the country. Danny ran 11.7s @
122mph, which was only beaten by one car, a stripped out Ford escort
Cosworth that did 11.4s. Danny and friends also ran a Renault 5 GT turbo,
which beat the previous best for this type of car, at 12.62s @ 109mph.
This is the new benchmark for R5 GT Turbos!
In the 2wd
class, Andy Nicholls proved once again that his white fwd Maestro turbo
can match the best cars in the country, even beating a lot of four wheel
drive cars. Andy managed a stupendous 12.61s @115mph in his car. This is
currently the quickest recorded time for a fwd road legal car on road
tyres as far as we know. The car features a 300bhp Rover T16 turbo engine,
and the car is totally home prepared and built! This was the quickest 2wd
car of the day, beating many rwd cars including a few 300bhp Cosworths
etc! A fantastic achievement by Andy, who is also looking to win his class
at Santa Pod USC in August.
