The Gilwell Park Amateur Radio Station was opened on 21st October 1989 to coincide with the world's largest Scouting Event, Jamboree-on-the-Air. Gilwell Park is a major international campsite located some 17km north east of central London. The campsite sits astride the Greenwich Meridian in the county of Essex. The founder of the movement became Lord Baden Powell of Gilwell in 1929. Scouting has 70,000 members in the united Kingdom and 16 million Scouts world-wide in more than 150 countries. GB2GP exists to provide young people with the opportunity to learn about amateur radio and associated technologies.
