The Great Central Railway
and Migration from Europe to North America (III)

Thank you, you are all very kind.

I have received many e-mails from people trying to trace the migration of their ancestors in response to the information at this web-site, and I am indeed very pleased that so many of you have found these pages useful. It is good that I have been able to help some of you bridge gaps in your researches. Thank you for your comments; you are all very kind.

And there's more, but not much more...

Just as I have encouraged you, so you have encouraged me. I present on this page the last gleanings from the 1903 Great Central Railway Timetable, as well as a table of links to other sites which I hope you will find useful as you continue your researches. First, here's another map...

This is a much-reduced version of the part of the Great Central Railway's system map from the
1903 timetable book. I have modified it in order to accentuate the routes from Hull and Grimsby
through Manchester and on to Liverpool. Click on the map to see a much larger version.
(The larger version is presented sideways, but not modified as above. However, because
the original map is larger than my scanner, you may notice that it is slightly blurred
at the places where I have had to join scans together to produce this composite.)

...and the final piece of information which might help you is a list of the Great Central Railway's agents in Europe and the United States. Whether or not any of these traded in any other years than 1903 is something I cannot say.

Location Agent name and address
Antwerp Messrs. Ruys & Co, 9 Quai Aux Charbons
Berlin Carl Stangen, Reisebureau
Cologne Mr. C. A. Neissen, 6 Domhof
Gothenburg Mr. Nyman, Reisebureau
Hamburg Mr. H. C. Röver, Cathdrinenhof, Holzbricke 9
Rotterdam Messrs. Ruys & Co, 8 Veerkade
Stockholm Capt. Wallenstein, Reisebureau
Vienna Mr. Rossenstein, Universal Reisebureau

In the United States, the Great Central Railway had a business relationship with Raymond & Whitcomb, who had offices at the following addresses:

296 Washington Street, BOSTON
95 Adams Street, Marquette Building, CHICAGO
250 Arcade Building, CLEVELAND
214 South Spring Street, LOS ANGELES
31 East 14th Street, Lincoln Bridge, Union Square West, NEW YORK
1005 Chestnut Street, Mutual Life Insurance Building, PHILADELPHIA
14 Montgomery Street, SAN FRANCISCO
