This page acts as a cross-reference to the other Nonconformist Church History Pages at this site.

Although strictly speaking, the term Nonconformist means one who did not conform to the requirements of the 1662 Act of Uniformity within England and Wales, this site uses the term more broadly. Included here are those, irrespective of their time in history, whose words or actions were in the same spirit as the Nonconformists - which is to say all those who believed that in matters of conscience, Christians are not subordinate to the civil authorities, but to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Some of the people commemorated at this site found themselves acting not only in contravention of the requirements of the civil authorities of their day, but also of senior figures within the church establishment whom they felt were not being faithful to Scripture. In every case, following their consciences involved sacrifice for these people - of their opportunity, their livelihood, their liberty, and for some even their lives.
