The Lhasa Apso originates from Tibet where it was used as a watchdog
by the wealthy households, especially in the palace of the Dalai Lama. The
Tibetans bred first and foremost for their temperament and the most notable
characteristic of this little dog was the tendency to bark at unfamiliar
sites and sounds. In fact the breed's Tibetan name means "hairy, barking
dog".
