LONGPIGS
Liverpool Royal Court
8th February 1997

A sizeable crowd had gathered to witness this rampant Sheffield outfit. Support came from much touted Embrace who performed an impressive set, even if they suffered from a notable lack of stage presence. Next up came Travis who were absolutely amazing, boasting some thumping, catchy tunes. Longpigs were going to have to be on top form to match the sparkle of Travis.

Longpigs came on stage to rapturous applause from an already buzzing crowd. However Crispian Hunt opened the performance on a somewhat pessimistic note by stating how unwell he had been with glandular fevour. Doubts were dispelled when they launched into their first number, 'Jesus Christ.' Any lingering mumbles were fantastically blown away by next song 'Lost Myself.' For somebody recovering from glandular fevour, Hunt can sing like an angel. This pulsating, stop start tune set the pace for the rest of the performance.

The band established an amusing repertoire with the crowd, and when they went for a well deserved break the bar talk was of an impressive band. They came back on an launched into the Chris Evans endorsed super single 'She Said.' Radiohead comparisons immediately sprung to mind, with this fantastic crowd pleaser. Hunt introduced the next number by quoting from his next song "Don't go inventing an acid that eats through anything, because were are you going to keep it? I think thats quite deep actually." The indie crooning of next acoustic number 'On and on' was a pleasing stepdown. Longpigs performed 'Lost Myself' once more before leaving the stage. Altogether Longpigs had produced an enjoyable, energetic performance. Special mention again must go to support band Travis. A great night!!
