Islington Folk Club

The Islington Folk Club is an old-established club which has met at various venues in Islington since the early 1970s. Its continuing aim is to present the best available artists, from the fiercely traditional to the frankly eccentric. The professional guest artists are supported every week by the house band - The Angel Band - and by resident singers.

We meet every Thursday (except in the summer). The programme gives details of forthcoming bookings; the evenings begin promptly at 8pm.

The club can be found at:

The Horseshoe
24 Clerkenwell Close
London
EC1R 0AG

(020) 7253 6068

The Horseshoe is an old-established Clerkenwell real-ale pub serving Greene King IPA and various guest ales on draught.

The nearest station is Farringdon (Circle, Metropolitan, and Hammersmith & City underground lines, and Thameslink), a five-minute walk away. Buses 19, 38 and 341 stop in Rosebery Avenue, 55 and 243 in Clerkenwell Road, 63 in Farringdon Road, and 153 in St John Street. Public transport information can be obtained from Transport for London. It's a little off the beaten track, but there is a map of the area on the UK Street Map Page.

Admission is £7.00 (£5.00 for members). Following recent changes to the licensing laws, it is no longer necessary to apply for membership in advance.

Floor singers are very welcome - we can usually fit you in. Email floorspots@islingtonfolkclub.co.uk or contact Bernard Puckett (address below). If you're looking for a booking, contact Bernard Puckett (bookings@islingtonfolkclub.co.uk) - but much the best way of being considered is to come along and do a floor spot.

There are a couple of review of the club online. Lars Nilsson wrote a piece on Folk Clubs in London for Green Man review. In February 2000 Hester Lacey wrote an article featuring the club in the Independent on Sunday. There are some photos of the club taken by Peter Crabb-Wyke on the efn photo gallery site.
