Camping At County School
Situated in the beautiful Wensum Valley, County School is an ideal location for organised camps. Until the 1960s, County School was frequently used by Scouts attending the Norfolk International Jamboree, which was held at the nearby Sennowe Park. Tent camping is available at County School station for members of The Scout Association, The Guide Association, and groups from other organisations exempted under section 269 of the Public Health Act. To date the site has been used by members of both The Scout Assocation and the Baden Powell Scouts' Assocation. We regret that public camping is not permitted, and that the site is not considered to be suitable for caravans.
Campers have access to the station toilets during their camp, which have limited washing facilities. A fresh water supply on the station platform is also provided, and limited undercover storage is available, if required, for an additional charge. There are two fire pits, and firewood can be made available by negotiation. As we only allow one group on site per session, all camping must be booked in advance. A set of camp rules and a booking form are available for download on this site.
No trains operate at County School, but the station site can offer heritage, environmental and community activities to campers. The site is 5 miles north of the railway's operational headquarters at Dereham, and about 4 miles from the Gressenhall Museum of Norfolk Life. The site is suitable for patrol or troop camps, but would not be suitable for larger groups, such as District events.
