County School Station

It is the start of 1941. Britain stands alone and awaits the seemingly inevitable German invasion. The railways are stretched to their limits trying to do their bit to keep the country fighting. This will be either our finest hour or our last stand.

County School station is a timewarp location. The windows are taped against Axis bombs, Churchill calls for your support while a poster asks whether your journey is really necessary. The past 60 years seem to have somehow missed this quiet corner of England - and yet it is only a short drive from the busy North Norfolk coast or the A47 trunk route to Norwich.

Whether your interest in in railways, local history, World War Two, walking, cycling, observing nature or just having a quiet cup of tea, County School is an ideal place for a visit.

Please spend a few minutes to explore our site and then take a few hours to pay a relaxing visit this very special place.

County School station is open on Sundays and Bank Holidays between Easter and September. Grounds and footpaths remain open throughout the year. Please note that, as of July 1st 2007, the station buildings and platforms are a no smoking area.

The station is located near North Elmham in Norfolk and is owned and operated by the Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust. This web site is run by volunteers at County School Station, and is not an official MNRPT site. Views expressed on this site should not necessarily be considered to be those of the Trust.

From 1903 to 1949, this station served the Watts Naval School, a Barnados Institution. Please click the link to find out more about the school, or click here for a school message board.
