Elmgrove is a large controlled primary school, staffed by a Principal plus 25.5 teachers, situated in a pleasant woodland site of 4.25 acres on the Beersbridge Road. The school, which is a listed building, is in a continuous state of improvement with the aim of providing the best possible facilities for the 600 children on rolls.
The staff are committed to the general aim of the school as stated in the school policy:
"To provide an interesting and caring environment so that our pupils may be healthy, happy and secure, and enjoy their childhood while their cognitive, social, physical, moral and spiritual needs are met by dedicated and professional teachers."
There are currently, three classes at each year level and the planning of the curriculum is appropriately differentiated. Additional support is available in the form of a special needs team of 3.5 teachers who assist approximately 100 children in a programme at Stage Two of the Code of Practice.
The importance of breadth in the curriculum is recognised and as well as bringing rigour to the teaching of the basic subjects, specialist attention is given to the areas of art, music and physcial education. Extra-curricular activities include Art, Choir, Orchestra, Hockey, Netball, Football and Computer Clubs.
During the 1999-2000 academic year a General Inspection of Elmgrove occurred. The report can be read at the DENI site.
