The female wasps were the only wasps that have a sting, the male wasps do not have a sting. The wasp has two pairs of wings, but they work like one.
When and Where Found
The best time too look for wasps is in the summer (from July to September). The best places to find them is around rotten fruit, near picnics, and in greengrocer shops. The wasps are parasites. That means they lay their eggs inside other animal's bodies, and when the eggs hatch the young ones come from the inside of their animal host.

In the spring the first wasp you would see is the queen out feeding. After the queen has had a good lot to eat, she chooses a hole to build her nest in and the hole is normally an empty mouse hole. The queens nest is made out of wood. She chews the wood in her mouth which mixes with saliva until its very soft. She makes a umbrella shaped dome from It. After about five days, the eggs start to hatch baby wasps come out. They do not have any eyes or legs at first, but when they get older they gradually get their eyes and legs, but they can still eat their food. The queen catches food for the larvae, the food she catches is are insects and beetles.
The queen does not eat insects and beetles. Instead the queen feeds on the sweet nectar and the saliva which the larvae produce. The larvae grows inside this papery shell, after about two weeks they are so large that they are the full size of their cells. After a while they stop eating. Then it put a silk covering over it called a cocoon. Then after a few days the cocoon starts to hatch and a wasp comes out of the cocoon, but nearly all the new wasps were females and they were worker wasps. Then when winter comes the queen goes to have a long sleep and then comes out in the spring again.
