Information for members

The Sheffield Symphony Orchestra rehearses on Wednesday evenings during term time during term time, 7.30pm until 9.30pm at Birkdale School (entrance on Endcliffe Crescent). Concerts are generally held on weekend evenings and usually preceded by an afternoon rehearsal.  The emphasis is on hard work and concentration during rehearsals, combined with a friendly atmosphere amongst players, enhanced by an active orchestral social life.

The SSO thrives on challenges, and our programmes sometimes take us into unfamiliar musical territory. In order to maintain our adventurous policy we need to ensure that our membership remains sufficient to present the range of repertoire we offer here. We welcome enquiries from all experienced players: currently we would particularly like to expand our string section (violas, cellos and basses particularly welcome).
