Welcome to Achernar's Home Page in the UK

Achernar - 'the end of the river' according to translation from Arabic - is a first magnitude star in the constellation Eridanus. I like this star for two reasons. First it reminds me of foreign climes, for Achernar is too far south in the sky to rise in the UK, (unless you want to wait a few thousand years for the precession of the equinoxes to take effect!). Second, it is a bright spark in an otherwise fairly sparse area of sky, being remote from other bright stars.
