"When the Power of Love overcomes the Love of Power, then there will be Peace"
I would like to make this page an area for discussion about "Burning Issues".
There are many issues which I feel concerned about
- some may seem trivial to you, others not so trivial. The issues
mentioned below are in no particular order of importance or merit
- what do you think about them, and similar things what concern
you?
I once heard it said that "the media regards itself as the conscience of the nation". I believe that is true - somehow, they feel it is up to them to indicate when they feel things are wrong or sub-standard or unjust. In some cases there is no question that this is useful and important, but as with everything there has to be a compromise. Ask yourself this - why in news bulletins is it common for the expression "At least 6 people have been killed " . This is kind of like saying "Yes - well it really is this bad and it could be worse". Why can't the expression "about 6 to 10 people have been killed" and tell us the worst estimate straight away rather than making it an item for "our suspense". There are several other examples of commonly used emotive words and phrases which I think should not be used just for the sake of "impact". If you care to read on, click here.
This is a hotly disputed topic, but my views are clear. What do you think?
I was brought up a Catholic and therefore it is not surprising I consider myself a Christian. Some Christians believe that all the Bible is literally true - but to me this can not be so. These are my views what are yours?
In Britain we have a parliamentary democracy which
is supposedly of a high standard with little corruption. Whilst
by and large, this may be true, it does not mean there isn't room
for improvement. I don't think our system works very well for
us. How can we change this?
As we progress technologically, our appetite for
energy is ever more insatiable. When I am driving down the motorway,
with a continuous line of cars in front of me, stretching for
miles and a continuous line of traffic on the opposite carriageway,
I find it quite frightening to consider the amount of petrol and
fuel being burned and consumed as we all scurry about our business.
I multiply this level of fright by several factors when I consider
similar lines of cars and trucks, first in the rest of the UK
and then all over the world. Where will it all end? How long can
"mother" earth satisfy our appetite?
Though many people are now aware of the Greenhouse Effect, is this really our main worry, or is the media's portrayal of it just part of a larger "Greenhouse Conspiracy"? The truth is probably less clear than most people would have you believe
The oil companies and oil producing nations are the most powerful in the world and many natural and human disasters have been caused in the name of supplying us with black gold. It has, on several occasions come to my attention that people claim to have invented super efficient engines and motors which will run and run either on very little fuel or using water. A few years ago, 2 Chemists - Fleishman and Ponds came across an unusual process called "Cold Fusion". At the time they were ridiculed perhaps because the implications of the results of their experiment were so profound as to be unbelievable - seemingly they could produce energy from nothing. Could it really be possible to do so? Cold Fusion is not dead - it is alive and well and you can study it on the web see:-
Using the net, I carried out some research on Cold Fusion and Zero Point energy and there seem to be quite a few people who claim to have demonstrate that it is possible to produce energy from thin air! Most people dismiss this idea out of hand because it is too unbelievable. Is this perhaps only unbelievable because of the staggering and far ranging consequences it would have it were possible? Below, you can download 2 files which contain collected documents on this subject which I have downloaded from the Net.
