| Many people ask me how can they create
a Website just like mine! Well I have compiled this step by step
guide;
Step 1:
Get a piece of paper and just roughly design the basic principle of
the site, Where the heading goes, The main text e.t.c. And give the
areas names, For Example, Main Body will be the area where most of the
text goes.
Step 2:
Get another piece of paper and write down things that you are going to
have on your site, It makes it a lot better in the long run, as you
can refer to that and see what you can add.
Step 3:
Acquire An HTML Editor, Preferably a WYSIWYG (What You See
Is What You Get) Editor, that way you do
not have to delve into the realms of HTML (Hyper Text Markup
Language). But Having a basic understanding of the Language is
a must. My Personal choice of editor is Microsoft's FrontPage 2000.
You can also used Notepad.exe, But a fundamental knowledge of HTML is
required.
Step 4:
Start designing your site in the editor, If you are not happy with the
design then you can always change it. There are 4 Fundamental rules
when creating web pages, 1) Content is King, Always have lots of
content to make your hits soar! 2) Ease of use, it is always good to
have a good designed web page that uses techniques used by the top
websites. 3) Cross Browser Compatibility (CBC), One thing that you
have to allow for is CBC, It is one of the things that sites have to
do, As Netscape compiles HTML Code Differently to Explorer. If you
have only designed for Explorer then you are going to loose a small
minority who use Netscape and Visa Versa! and Finally 4) Navigation,
You will have to have a good navigation system or your visitor is
going to get lost and will just click to another site, so a good
navigation system is vital! also one other thing to consider is the
resolution that the page fits into, most people use 800x600, so it is
best to do that resolution!
Step 5:
Use Appropriate Images. One of the things that really bugs me is when
people use some crap images, Maybe Taking ages to Load, too big or has
no relevance to the site whatsoever. Use small sized images which can
be loaded quickly and easily! The Main graphics formats are .gif and
.jpg. .gif's are the most common, using 256 colors, it is one of the
best formats to use as you can also make animations from them as well.
.jpg's are somewhat different to .gif's being that they have higher
resolutions and that they are slightly bigger in the file size
department! One of the best image editors around is Paint shop Pro, It
is available on most cover discs as a 30 day trail so you can try it
out before you buy. (Paint Shops Website is: http://www.jasc.com).
Step 6:
Test out all Pages locally before uploading. Test all links to see if
they are working and test out the compatibility of the pages on some
browsers! So once you have done that, Upload it to your web space and
watch the visitors come in!
If you want to Print this then feel
free to do so!
