Started in 1971 by Adrian Guthrie with Leila Blake, Bruce Kerr and others. Early productions included: 
Fernando Arrabal's Fando and Liz (dir. Blake) 
  a workshop of Margurite Duras' L'Amant Englaise (dir. Guthrie)
Ron Blair's Flash Jim Vaux (dir. Kerr)
Sophocles' Oedipus Rex (adapted and dir. Guthrie)
Ionesco's The Bald Prima Donna 1950 (dir. Guthrie)
extended workshops exploring the commedia dell'arte
regular children's theatre (which paid the bills)
an extensive national tour of Guthrie's Waves - Pieces for theatre.

Adrian Guthrie was influenced by Sue Neville 
who had worked with Jerzy Grotowski in Poland the 1960s,
and he wanted to experiment with performance.

Key members in the experimental company that emerged included Glenda Lum, Kim Gyngell, 
Alison Richards, Adam Salzer, Oleg Lewinski, Russel Howell, Alan Hartman, 
Michael Ekersal, Greg Ham and Howard Stanley
