toy blocks 39.gif (5271 bytes)he Woodturners Association of Gwynedd was formed by a small group of local craftsmen and amateur woodturners in 1994 with the help of two local professionals namely Jules Tattersall and Mike Scott with the sole aim of promoting the art of woodturning throughout Gwynedd.

The first meeting was held at the premises of Jackson Supersharp at Menai Bridge and was attended by some 30 prospective members, many of whom went on to become founder members of the association and helped to formulate the constitution that governs the way the association is run and the election of its officers.

Today the membership is in excess of 85 members whose skills range from absolute beginners to intermediate and advanced turners. Many of the advanced turners have developed and improved their skills by attending our monthly meetings and from the numerous demonstrations throughout the year given by both advanced turners, and imported professionals at our club room which is based at Bangor Cricket Club.

The Association also holds four Exhibitions and demonstrations each year at Penrhyn Castle in April and September and Beaumaris Festival at the end of May and again at the end of October. Both Beaumaris exhibitions are in the Town Hall.

Each year the Association adopts a charity and will collect and donate the proceeds of our own in-house charity competition to the nominated charity.
