Devonport Navy Days 1999

The 28th to the 30th of August 1999 saw the largest Royal Navy Days yet at HM Dockyard, Devonport, in Plymouth, England. Apart from the many ships, attractions included the Red Arrows display team, the Red Devils parachute team, marching bands and a tattoo. Undoubtedly the start of the show was the aircraft carrier Illustrious, replacing the helicopter carrier Ocean.

Among other ships attending were the Type 42 destroyer Manchester, Type 23 frigates Somerset, Sutherland, Montrose and Monmouth, Type 22 frigates Sheffield and Campbeltown, minehunters Chiddingfold and Walney, survey ship Beagle, helicopter training ship Argus, nuclear submarines Triumph and Trafalgar, and the RFA tanker Black Rover. The only foreign visitor was the French minehunter Pegase.
