History & Modifications
Derwent:
Derwent was completed with a quad SeaCat launcher and was not fitted with a twin 40mm mounting. She
was also fitted with a VDS of unknown type, which was removed in the late 1960s. Derwent has been
decommissioned.
Parramatta:
Parramatta was completed with a twin 40mm mounting which was replaced by a quad SeaCat SAM launcher. One
of the Limbo mortars was replaced by Ikara during refit. She has been decommissioned.
Stuart:
Stuart was completed with a twin 40mm mounting which was replaced by a quad SeaCat SAM launcher. She
was also fitted with a VDS of unknown type, which was removed in the late 1960s. Between February
1964 and June 1965 she carried out trials with the Ikara AS missile. She has been decommissioned.
Swan:
Swan was decommissioned on 13th September 1996.
Torrens:
In 1985 Torrens was refitted at Cockatoo. Muloka sonar was added, as was a SLQ-25 towed decoy. Mk32
torpedo tubes were added in place of the Limbo mortar. In 1991 both Ikara and SeaCat were removed.
On 15th June 1999 she was sunk as a target by a Mk48 torpedo from the submarine Farncomb.
Yarra:
Yarra was completed with a twin 40mm mounting which was replaced by a quad SeaCat SAM launcher. One of
the Limbo mortars was replaced by Ikara during a refit at Cockatoo starting October 1976. She was
decommissioned in January 1985.
