Two ARS 16VVS-AS21 diesel generators producing a total of 3680bhp were fitted with two English Electric main motors totalling 6000hp on two shafts. Two 112 cell Exide batteries were fitted producing 880 volts.

Maximum speed was 12kts surfaced and 17kts submerged electric or 11kts snorkelling. Range was 9000NM @ 12kts surfaced.
