History & Modifications



Nelson:
Nelsons eight single 2pdr guns wre replaced by a single octuple 2pdr mouting in 1931. By 1939 a total of three octuple 2pdr mountings were carried. In 1940 four UP rocket launchers were fitted. In September 1941 she was damaged by a torpedo launched from an Italian aircraft which caused serious damage to the torpedo room, and was removed during repairs. By January 1942 another three octuple 2pdr mountings had been added.

In late 1944 she was refitted in America, and by the end of the warher displacement had risen to 43400 tons maximum. After the war, plans were considered to give her a major refit for to serve in the postwar fleet. These were never carried out due to the cost, her age and slow speed. In August 1946 she became flagship of the training squadron at Portland. She was sold for scrapping in February 1948, and was used as a target ship until scrapping began in March 1949.

Rodney:
Rodneys eight 2pdr guns were replaced by a single octuple 2pdr mounting in 1931. She was fitted with a catapult on X turret in 1936 and by 1939 there were a total of 3 octuple 2pdr mountings. In September 1941 a quad 2pdr mountings was added, and two more octuples in February 1942, when the catapult and aircraft were removed. By the end of the war her displacement was 43140 tons maximum.

Due to her poor condition, she was laid up at the end of the war until being sold for scrapping in March 1948.
