County Class (Batch 1)

D02 Devonshire
D06 Hampshire
D12 Kent
D16 London
The first British warships built with guided missiles turned out larger than planned, mainly due to the handling arrangements for the Sea Slug missile.

County Class (Batch 2)

D18 Antrim
D20 Fife
D19 Glamorgan
D21 Norfolk
The Batch 2 ships were armed with the Mk2 Sea Slug, with a limited capability against surface targets. All the class were refitted with Exocets in place of the second turret.

Type 82 Bristol Class

D23 Bristol The Type 82s were planned as a class of 4 to escort the Queen Elizabeth class carriers, but with the demise of that project, only one was completed as a testbed for the Sea Dart missile.

Type 42 Sheffield Class (Batch 1)

D86 Birmingham
D108 Cardiff
D118 Coventry
D88 Glasgow
D87 Newcastle
D80 Sheffield
The Type 42s are intended for outer taskforce protection. Expansion potential is limited, and the ships were originally reliant on ECM against low level attack, which would prove disasterous in the Falklands campaign.

Type 42 Exeter Class (Batch 2)

D89 Exeter
D92 Liverpool
D91 Nottingham
D90 Southampton
The Batch 2 ships are little more than repeats of Batch 1, with uprated engines and electronics.

Type 42 Manchester Class (Batch 3)

D97 Edinburgh
D96 Gloucester
D95 Manchester
D98 York
The Batch 3 ships were a big improvement on the previous ships, having been enlarged with a 50 foot plug and improved electonics.

The Type 42s will be replaced by the Type 45 class, which will be built instead of the Horizon project.
