Invincible served in the Falklands war between April and September 1982. On 18th September 1982, she went for refitting, recommissioning in February 1983.

On 29th April 1986, Invincible arrived for her second refit, involving the removal of the SeaDart, and replacing Phalanx with Goalkeeper. She recommissioned on 18th May 1989.

From 1993, Invincible was involved in policing NATOs no-fly zone over Bosnia, sharing this duty with Ark Royal and Illustrious. On 15th April 1999, she arrived in the Mediterranean to assist NATO operations against Serbia.
