On the 22nd of May 1982 , Antelope was acting as escort to a landing force. In an air raid, she was hit by a 500lb bomb which entered the engine room, but did not explode. Attempts were made to defuse it, but it exploded in the night, killing one of the disposal crew. The explosion started a large fire, and despite efforts to save the ship, she broke her back on the afternoon of the 24th.
