History & Modifications
All ships:
All the class in RN service were refitted in the 1960s. The Type 960 was replaced by the Type 965
with the mainmast being replaced by a stronger structure to support the AKE1 antenna. The Type
293Q was replaced by a Type 993, and the STAAG mounting was replaced by a single 40mm gun.
Extra ESM equipment was also added. The crew was increased to 235.
Jaguar:
Jaguar was refitted in 1966 and assigned to the 5th Frigate Squadron during the 1973 Cod War, and
then assigned to the Standby Squadron until recommissioning in 1976. She was sold in 1978 to the
Bangladeshi Navy as Ali Hyper.
Leopard:
Leopard was refitted between October 1964 and February 1966. She was sold for scrapping in 1978.
Lynx:
Lynx was refitted in 1963. She sold to the Bangladeshi Navy as the Abu Baka, being handed over
on 12th March 1982.
Panther:
Panther was sold to the Indian Navy while under construction and renamed Bramaputra.
Puma:
Puma was refitted in 1963. She was decommissioned in 1974 and sold for scrapping in 1976.
