History & Modifications
All ships:
All the class were refitted in the 1960s. The mainmast was replaced to support the AKE-2 antenna
for the new Type 965 radar which replaced the Type 960.
Chichester:
In the late 1960s the STAAG mounting was removed and replaced by a twin 40mm mounting with tachymetric
director. Two Knebworth Corvus decoy launchers were also fitted. The Type 293Q radar was replaced by
the Type 993.
In 1973 all the radars except the Type 993 and Type 268 were removed. The 40mm guns were replaced by a
single 20mm. In 1973 Chichester was assigned to Hong Kong as a guardship, for which she was
refitted. She returned to the UK in 1976 and placed in reserve until being scrapped in 1981 at Queenborough.
Lincoln:
Lincoln was present during the conforntation with Indonesia in the 1960s, and was fitted with
protective bow and stern sheaths during the Cod Wars.
In the late 1960s the 40mm gun was removed and replaced by a quad SeaCat launcher. Two Knebworth
Corvus decoy launchers were also fitted. Two 20mm guns were fitted in single mountings abrest the
bridge. The Type 293Q radar was replaced by the Type 993.
She was sold for scrapping in 1983.
Llandaff:

the Type 993.
Llandaff was sold to the Bangladeshi Navy in December 1976 and renamed Oomar Farooq.
Salisbury:
In the late 1960s the STAAG mounting was removed and replaced by a quad SeaCat launcher. Two Knebworth
Corvus decoy launchers were also fitted. Two 20mm guns were fitted in single mountings abrest the
bridge. The Type 293Q radar was replaced by the Type 993.
Salisbury was placed in reserve in June 1978 and sold to Egypt. While en route, the deal was cancelled
while she was at Gibralter. She was used as a static training ship for HMS Raleigh from 1980 until
September 1985 when she was sunk as a target.
