St. Laurent Class

The St. Laurents were the first postwar Canadian ships, and the first warships to be designed and built locally. Six of the ships received the DELEX, or Destroyer Life Extension program, including updated sensors, weapons and a helicopter.

Restigouche Class

The Restigouches were a direct development of the St. Laurents, with only minor changes. Four of the class received the DELEX updates, but without the addition of a helicopter.

Mackenzie Class

The Mackenzies were based on the Restigouches, but with improvements that allowed a reduction in crew levels. All were given DELEX without helicopter.

Annapolis Class

The Annapolis class were based on the St. Laurent design after the addition of a helicopter. Both recieved DELEX.

The latest Canadian frigates are also the first to be gas turbine propelled. All are to be fitted with sound deadening tiles to absorb excessive noise, and an advanced towed array is to replace the existing unit.
