As all-gun ships, the Hamburgs were effectivly obsolete on completion, although the armament was due to the defensive nature of the German navy at the time. The addition of Exocets improved matters, and the Hamburgs are excellent seaboats with high speed for their size. |

The Lutjens were built in America as Adams class destroyers, but bought whilst still under construction. All have had their service lifes extended by refit, but are soon to be replaced by the Sachsen class air defence frigates. |
