S519 Carlo Fecia Di Cossato S521 Guglielmo Marconi S520 Leonardo Da Vinci S518 Nazario Sauro |
The Sauros were a result of a requirement for a much larger boat than the Totis, with
long range and habitability as requirements. The first 2 were ordered in 1967, but
financial problems led to their cancellation, and they were reordered in 1972.
The second pair were ordered in 1976, and cnstruction was delayed due to defective batteries, which were replaced by Swedish made units. |
