On 29th April 1917, Imperatritsa Ekaterina was renamed Svobodnaya Rossiya. She was sunk by 4 torpedoes from the destroyer Kerch to prevent her being handed over to German forces after the ceasefire. In the 1930s, parts of the ship including some of the boilers were salvaged.
