In 1900, Sissoy Velikiy took part in an assault operation in northern China during the Boxer rebellion. On 27th May 1905, she was at the battle of Tsushima, and took a total of 12 x 7.9" and 12" hits, but continued on her way to Vladivostok. On the night after the battle, she was torpedoed by a Japanese destroyer, which started a serious fire. At 9AM on the 28th, she was scuttled by her own crew 3 miles off Cape Karasaki.
