Retvizan Class


Retvizan Retvizan was built in America as a cost of some £1 million. Compared to other Russian battleships of the time, she was fast and well armoured. She was sunk by Japanese artillery at Port Arthur, then raised and entered the Japanese navy.

Tsessarevitch Tsessarevitch built in France and was intended as a prototype for the Borodinos which would be Russian built.

The building of these ships was delayed due to design changes made because of the war with Japan, and construction was already well advanced when the changes were made. Another 6 of the class were originally planned, but the appearance of the dreadnought made them obsolete, and the extra ships were never built.
