Vitiaz Class

The Vitiaz class were built with a composite steen and iron hull, which was sheathed in copper. Both suffered from weak hulls.


Admiral Kornilov Class



Admiral Kornilov Admiral Kornilov was bought from France, and featured a large ram bow.


Svetlana Class



Svetlana Svetlana was bought from France, and in peacetime was used as the yacht of the Grand Duke commanding the navy.


Pallada Class

The Palladas were a major improvement on previous Russian cruisers, although their protection was light.


Varyag Class



Varyag Varyag was built incorporating contemporary American ideas.


Askold Class



Askold Askold was one of the fastest cruisers built at the time. She was easily recognizable due to her 5 funnels, which led to her being known as 'the packet of Woodbines'.


Bogatyr Class

The Bogatyrs were built to 2 slightly different designs. The Black Sea ships, Ochakov and Kagul, were shorter and had a smaller displacement than the other 3 ships of the Baltic Fleet, but were also faster.


Novik Class



Novik Novik was lightly armoured and more of a large destroyer than a cruiser. She was fast for her time and one of the best Russian cruisers.


Boyarin Class



Boyarin Boyarin was a smaller version of the Bogatyrs.


Izumrud Class

The Izumruds were Russian versions of the Novik, but with 3 masts and longer range.
