The floor repair has been welded to the chassis.
Before I can remove the body from the chassis I have to break the weld. I would like to
use an angle grinder but to get access I will have to remove the damper.
As the nut on the front end of the front damper
is inaccessible the plate on the end of the suspension tube has to be removed.
Still
can't get at the weld so have remove suspension units.
Slacken off the tie-rods by using a spanner on
the flats on the rods. The rear tie-rod end must be removed completely. But before this is
done note the position as this governs the ride height.
With the tie-rods slack the spring clips can be
removed from the knife edges and they can be removed. The rubber dust cover at the front,
inside the slotted support, has to be slid out along the tie-rod.
Release the locking washer on the 50 mm nut.
Undo the nut. When it reaches the alloy cone it will probably stop. The steel threaded
tube sits in a recess in the alloy cone and is probably corroded into it. It has to be
separated. Carry on turning the nut until it comes of the end of the threaded tube. I
drilled a hole in each side of the nut and split it with a chisel.
Eventually, after some penetrating oil was
added, the threaded tube came out of the alloy cone. Now the tie-rod passes through the
slot and the unit can be removed.
