Strip engine

Started work on engine/gearbox. First I made a stand out of some scrap metal that I had saved from an old bed. I new that I had to replace an oilseal where the shaft comes out of the diff so I drained the gearbox oil.
On the magnetic drain plug I was surprised to find some pieces of metal. This looked serious. I asked the 2CV-L list if anyone could identify where it had come from. Some suggested synchro circlip but that has, apparently, a cross section with a flat on it. This was circular. (Before it was squashed.)
Ken Hanna suggested a detent spring. Then it dawned on me. When you lift the gearbox cover you have to but your fingers under it as you lift it and get hold of a detent spring which goes up into a recess on the cover. I had done this so I got it and compared it to the remains. I also trawled through the oil I had taken out and there was the rest of the spring. I guess someone had dropped on and replaced it without recovering it.
I undid the 6 bolts that hold one of the output shafts and extracted the shaft. I now need a long 29mm box spanner to dismantle it.
I couldn't find any more debris in the gear box but there was slight damage to the edge of a couple of gearteeth.
Removed the heat exchangers.
Removed the inlet manifold.
Removed the front grill.
Removed the fan.
Removed the cowling from around the cylinders,
Both cylinders had wheat grains packed between the cooling fins!
Removed the cylinderhead covers.
Removed the cylinderheads.
And pushrods.
There was negligible wear in the bores but there were quite a few scratches. This would indicate that the engine has seized at some time. Perhaps caused by the wheat.
Removed points.

Split gearbox from engine to inspect clutch. Looks OK.
Also took end cover of gearbox. No play in bearings.
