Refurbished shock absorbers (dampers)

The dampers where in good working order except for the outer covering tubes. As the dampers are mounted horizontally they collect water and rust through.

I made new tubes by bending sheet steel around a former. Jubilee clips held each tube in a tight circle whilst I welded them.

Before welding them on I spray-painted the dampers so that the main bodies where covered.

After welding and cleaning up with an angle grinder I resprayed them.

To keep the rust at bay I heated up some Waxoyl (and heated the tubes) and spooned it into each tube to coat the inside.

The finished article looks ok.
With them in place I fitted the exhaust system.
