I adjusted the brake shoes by:-
1) putting the drum on then adjusting the cams until the shoes were
touching the drum.
2) removing the drum and attaching another homemade tool. This allows
the shoe heights to be compared.
3) adjusting the eccentrics until the shoe at the eccentrics was at
the same radius as the shoe at the cam.
4) slackening the cams and replacing the drum.
5) adjusting the cams until the shoes were just clear of the drum.
The idea is that when the shoes meet the drum they contact along
their entire length. I tried the brakes out then removed the drums
again. They seemed to be rubbing along their entire length.
