Please note: This HTML version of my thesis is intended to be functional rather than decorative. I have kept the coding relatively simple for ease of reading on different browsers and since I do not want to devote a large part of my spare time to the project. I have therefore paid less attention to the conversion and linking of sections than some might think desirable.
While I would have prefered to have the thesis in a form that was readable to that small, hardened band who still cling desperately to their text-based browsers, this is clrearly not possible since there are figures and diagrams involved. Since images are unavoidable I have opted for inserting many of the equations as images in the hope of avoiding formatting problems on different browsers that might result in the equations being legible but misleading.
There may well be errors and omissions, as I have other things to do besides proof-reading HTML, but I hope these will be few and far between. If you spot any defects please email me; all comments will be read (although not necessarily heeded!)
