Flood and Coastal Defence with Emergencies (FCDE) Database Migration Project

The database migration project redeveloped various DataEase databases used by the FCDE division of MAFF. It stored information about and tracks the life of flood and coastal defence projects including information about finance granted by MAFF and other government bodies. It was written using CA-INGRES ABF/4GL, SQL, C and Report Writer under CA-INGRES V6.4 on SNI RM600 running SINIX 5.42.

Ambica:

• Was engaged to QA and amend existing program specifications.
• Led a team to develop the system.
• Wrote a style guide and system design document.
• Prepared programming estimates for the project manager.
• Was engaged with some of the development work.
• Spent much time communicating with users to clarify issues.

Following the merging of phases 1 and 2 a prototyping approach was adopted for development based on DSDM (Dynamic Systems Development Method). The project upgraded to CA-OpenIngres 1.2 at the beginning of 1998 and system tested the completed software by the end of March.
