Whilst working for IOS, Ambica became involved with support of and enhancments for the IMPACT system. This system was developed for the Chief Scientist's Group (CSG) within DEFRA. It deals with the commissioning and monitoring of contracts for scientific research, financial control of projects and provision of management information. It is an Intranet system running on a Compaq Proliant server running Windows NT 4.0 Server, SQL Server 7.0 and IIS (Internet Information Server) and is accessed by client PCs using Internet Explorer 4.0. The application was developed with Visual Studio 6.0 Enterprise Edition using Visual Interdev 6.0, Visual Basic 6.0, Active X Controls, VBScript and ASP (Active Server Pages). Reports were written in Crystal Reports 7.0.

Ambica carried out the following enhancements:

• Added report diary pages
• Changed security settings of system
• Changed auto-numbering of project codes
• Allowed alteration of concept note numbers
• Simplified search of purchase orders via project code
• Added new copy project facility
• Implemented new link project year to financial year cost conversion algorithm
• Updated link electronic forms in Excel with DEFRA name
• Enhanced report diary
• Removed address list button
• Altered contacts search to return address details
• Added warning when rejecting projects
• Stored annual cost summary in database for reporting purposes
• Removed MAFF logo
