The Science Directorate (SD) reviewed all forms used within Defra to capture information on research projects. It was decided to develop electronic versions of some of these forms using a mixture of PDF and Word formats so that these could be submitted via a public web site. Development was commenced on Windows 2000 servers running SQL Server 2000 and IIS (Internet Information Server) and on local PCs using Visual Studio .NET, ASP.NET, VB.NET, HTML, and XML web services. Ambica developed pages for:

• Internet users to submit registration information.
• Maintenance of competition information.
• Maintenance of business unit information.
• Upload of forms either into the database or directly to a network drive.
• Viewing of competition documents within the database and transfer to a network drive
• Display of a log of who viewed a competition document and when.

Also registered and linked application to Government Gateway.
