| Moving onto to the game related updates starting with Team Fortress
Classic. Can you outline for those not in the know, what new additions TFC players can
look forward to? The biggest single addition will be the ability for the Engineer to build a one-way teleporter (see pic 1). It has been quite some time since there were any substantial unique additions to TFC (i.e. HLTV excluded etc), why was the decision made to add such content now? Team Fortress Classic is one of the most played games on the Internet, and we haven't been giving it the attention it deserves. This update will be the beginning of a number of changes we have in mind for TFC. Can you tell us a bit about the engineer's teleport pad? How long has that been on the drawing board, why has it been added and what does it do? The TFC Engineer will have the ability to build a one-way teleporter. It'll teleport one player at a time and takes roughly ten seconds to recharge. If either the entrance or exit for a teleporter is destroyed, it will have to be rebuilt in order to be functional again. We've been working on the teleporter for about a month now. Most of the time has been spent fiddling with it to get the balance right. What impact do you think this addition will have on the game, and specifically class balance, given that engineers are already powerful (EMPs, SGs, dispenser bombs...) and that players will be used to an overall "balance" that has remained constant for a considerable period now? The ability for the Engineer to build teleporters doesn't really make the Engineer class more powerful since he's building a support item for the rest of his team. A team with a smart Engineer using teleporters in a smart, tactical way will definitely have a major advantage over a team that doesn't. I do expect to see a lot of new strategies develop around the teleporter. Can you tell us a bit more about the new map Ravelin? Ravelin is a reverse CTF map by Iikka Keranen. There are some automated defenses around the fortresses that teams can target to make the enemy more vulnerable (see pics 1 & 2). How has the success of CS affected your support for TFC over the last couple of years? Where before it was often touted as a testing ground for TF2 (voice comms, map themes) how important to Valve is TFC now? TFC is still extremely important to us. On a related note, is there more TFC specific content planned for the future? Yes, we have a number of things planned for TFC.
