I decided to go for a Japanese Import, secondhand, through a company called DK Cars, near Leek, Staffordshire. I went to buy an Imprezza Turbo WRX, but even though they are very fast, they look too much like every other saloon car on the road (no offence to Imprezza owners).
Sitting in the showroom (sold unfortunately) was a gorgeous metallic blue Mitsubishi GTO with 19" alloys!!!!! It really looked the part. The best of all - THE WIFE LIKED IT!!!
So the deposit was put down and I stated my preferred specification - Red or Silver, large alloys, full leather interior, less than 60,000 miles and preferably all original paintwork. Couple of weeks later I got sent some pictures of a Silver GTO waiting at the docks in Japan ready to be loaded onto the boat.
The boat sailed on 31st August and arrived at the beginning of October. The car arrived at DK yesterday (10th October). I've been to see it today and can't wait :)
I've bought the registration plate G2 GTO which looks quite nice on the car.
Here are some pictures I took the day after the car arrived at DK Cars, click on the small image for a larger version.
The spec, from what I can gather is :
originally registered in 1992
3 litre V6
24 valve
Twin Turbo Chargers
Manual Transmission
4WD
4WS
Air Con
Active Spoilers
18" alloys
Full Leather Interior
around the 300BHP mark
I've had a Clifford Concept 600 alarm/immobiliser fitted with a few of the 'optional toys'.
Take a look at Paul Roberts GTO UK website, pictures from a recent GTO Owners Club meeting at Ferrybridge, Yorkshire, or pictures from a Jap car meeting at Box Hill, Surrey
