River Dee

The river Dee starts out life on the  slopes of Aran Mawddwy in Gwynedd and flows down through Bala, Corwen, Llangollen, Bangor, Chester and hence to the sea.

Famous for Salmon & Trout, the Dee also has an excellent head of coarse fish from Bangor down. Including bream, roach, dace, grayling, perch, chub, pike and quite a lot of flatties!
most of my fishing is done in the Bangor area where the river is quite wide. There are deep chub holes, fast bubbly stretches where the dace and grayling dart, gentle glides where the perch & roach mosey along

Coarse Fish: 16th June to March 15th

Winter time on the Dee is a beautiful time to be out on the river, this is mainly due to the exceptional fishing which is to be had. It is a good time to catch a specimen chub and large dace are also on the cards, but the Dee is famed for it's grayling fishing. In the past ten years or so the grayling has taken over the river, especially in the turbulent upper reaches ie Bangor and above, the tributaries notably Worthenbury brook are also good grayling fisheries. I like to fish for the grayling with light fly tackle but baitfishing with redworms or maggot also catch plenty of fish, why not give it a go instead of trudging off to the local carp puddle this winter.
