After building my first curved plane design utilising the 9x6cm frame size, I got thinking about a
really small camera with a really big view. This camera is based on a chassis which was originally
designed for a flat film plane (FP6045-29-001).
The resulting camera has a 6x6cm frame size with a 110 degree horizontal field of view. Across the
diagonal of the film the angle of view exceeds 130 degrees, equating to a focal length of less than 10mm
on the 135 format.
Note : The picture below shows my prototype with the very attractive 'chamrock'
hole pattern. This pattern is no longer used as it was difficult to make consistently good hole patterns
(a shame because I really like it). Other pictures show the camera with the single, large hole on the
front panel that is now the final design.

This camera is extremely compact giving it a neat, tidy external appearance. It sits nicely in the
hand & its small dimensions mean it is easy to carry in a small pouch.
The shutter design on this camera came about through the requirement to keep everything close to the body
of the camera thereby avoiding any part of it intruding into the photograph.
The shutter is very successful in that it is unobtrusive, but works with a minmumu of effort.

It is interesting to compare the shots from this camera & my 9x6cm camera (CP9060-40-001).
The horizontal angle of view is very similar, but the 6x6cm camera has a much wider vertical view due
to its shorter focal length. The 'look' of the shots is very different with the 6x6cm pictures having
almost a fisheye appearance.
It is easy to judge for yourself, if you would like to see comparison shots from both of the cameras,

The extreme wide view of this design makes the use of my crude type of viewfinder impractical. Instead
an angle guide is placed on the top plate which allows the horizontal viewing angle to be judged. The
angle guide also looks very good in my opinion. The huge hole on the front panel ensures ample,
unobstructed coverage right into the corners of the frame.

The small dimensions give little room inside the camera. After some practice, the knack of loading is
soon learnt & a new roll of film plops in without a great deal of fuss. I have found that as the spools
are lowered & the paper leader rides over the top guide, a finger placed inside the camera will help the
leader ride over the lower guide & the spools will settle into position.

In comparison to
CP9060-40-001 we
can see that the new camera
is considerably smaller.

Looking into the camera with everything in place (above left), it all looks rather 'snug'.
