The Blackdown hills are situated in West Somerset to the South of Taunton & Wellington, There are many walks here for those who are both energetic and those who would prefer an easier pace. The hills are covered with wildlife and there are some wonderful beauty spots and picnic areas for the who family.

Wellington Monument
This picture depicts Wellington Monument situated on the Blackdown hills just South of Wellington. At night it has spot lights that give the Monument a fantastic glow with it's height of 175ft it can be seen for many miles.

It overlooks the vale of Taunton Deane, construction of the Monument started in 1817 to commemorate Wellington's victory over Napoleon at Waterloo. It's completion was not until after the Dukes Death though. It is now owned by the National Trust.
