When you first approach Somerset from the
North on the M5 you see a large area, this is known as The Somerset Levels. It was on part
of this land that the last battle on English soil was fought and was known as The Battle
Of Sedgemoor. As you travel further on into this beautiful county you see hills on three
sides, those on the left are the Mendips where below you will find Cheddar, famous of
course for CHEDDAR CHEESE and the Gorge, also strawberries. A little further on, on your
right in the distance you will see the range of hills which are the Quantocks where the
stags and deer are found roaming freely. On certain parts of these hills it is possible to
see the Bristol Channel. And in distance the coast of Wales is visible. The range of hills
you see in front of you as you approach Taunton is the Blackdown Hills upon, which stands
the Wellington Monument, which is visible for miles around.
Travelling on towards Minehead and beyond you find yourself on the lovely Exmoor,
famous for R.D. Blackmoor's Lorna Doone. And today the Exmoor Ponies.
But now go yourself and explore this Rich and Beautiful County of Somerset.
