Whenever you talk about image editing or photo retouching the chances are that it was done in Photoshop. For years it has been Adobes flagship program and it has yet to be beaten. It allows you to enhance photos or even video by adding or removing features or altering colours and adding filters. The latest version (5.5) is very powerful and you will need to read the manual before using it, or else you will quickly become bewildered by all the functions available.

You can add extra filters from the internet as well as use them within other Adobe programs such as Premiere. The link above takes you to a list of Photoshop filters, including a great collection of third party filters.
There are a few thousand free filters at http://www.netins.net/showcase/wolf359/ where you can download both Mac & PC versions (not all will work on the Mac). There are so many that you cannot use them in Photoshop at the same time as your filter menu will become huge. Sort through the ones you like and remove the others until you need them. |

Many old photos, whether they are black & white family portraits taken in the early 1900's to colour snaps from the 1980's, will all show signs of wear and tear, such as colours fading away, rips and creases or poor contrast. Photoshop can bring them back to pristine condition, and even improve on them as your standard photo shop will not touch up poor photos. I have created a section on how to restore your photos from the experiences I have had |
